MN1003 Wrap around maternity top variation

Added Mar 22, 2011

Tokyo, Japan

I used Megan Nielson’s maternity top pattern to make this dress.

I think the top is great for the third trimester pregnant body. So, I decided to do a Chie remix of the dress for a couple of reasons. First I do not have jeans that fit me comfortably any longer so I needed to find a way to cover my bottom half. Also I wanted to make it a bit dressier because I planned on wearing this on my baby shower, which had to be canceled….because of the earthquake. So using Meg’s pattern, I made some alteration and turned it into a dress.

I used two-way stretch jersey in peach color. After finding out that I’m pregnant with a baby girl, I find myself wearing more pink – Not sure why, but I want to feel girly in pink and peach and all that pretty colors of Spring.

I wrote a brief tutorial on how I turned the top to dress on my blog here

Darling! I love the petal pink color! Really beautiful. This is so sad that you had to cancel your baby shower! My heart really goes out to the people of Japan, but it is very nice to hear that you are still sewing!

    xoxo, Sunni

Such a beautiful dress. The colour is so flattering. I’d be wearing this all the time, baby bump or not!

So beautiful. A far cry from the usual frumpy tents that go under the guise of maternity wear!

i never really liked tent style maternity wear – i own some, but i look huge when i wear them! so when i wear tent dress, i make sure to wrap a belt around my waist!

This is soooo beautiful! I guess if I had such a beautiful picture of me being pragnant… you will find it on my wall. :-) Since I have a serger I don’t want to sew nothing than jersey. Love this comfy, wrap design.

i know, serger makes it so much easier to sew jersey, doesnt it?! i love different settings that serger has to make it easier to treat stretchy fabrics!

congrats to both of it: the dress AND the baby! if your baby turns out to be as lovely as the dress (and i am quite sure of this) than you will have a supserstarbaby :-) all the best from berlin!

this is such a lovely dress! What a blessing to have a new little life coming! Congratulations! I can understand the wearing of pink… like having a girl in you she’s already excited about the clothes you’ll make her! You and your country are in my thoughts and prayers.
