This outfit was inspired by a box of lace! An old friend of mine was cleaning out the attic of an elderly friend and came across a box of antique lace from her sewing days. The elderly lady just told her to toss it, but my friend sent it to me. I used to make doll clothing for our girls when they were growing up and she thought I might like the lace for my sewing projects. She was right! I had some vintage mint colored lawn in my stash and coupled it with some of the laces in the box and put little design details into the dress such as lace insertion and twin-needle pintucks. A beautiful outfit of days gone by….
Antique lace insertion, border laces and vintage mint green lawn.

Heheheheheh! You go, girl! I think you should compensate and make one for yourself! As far as a pattern goes, I drafted this one for this specific doll. So it’s all original.

This is so incredibly gorgeous, my jaw literally dropped! :D I want one for myself! Not that I’d have anywhere to ever actually wear it, but whatever…I still want it! Absolutely amazing job.

Thank you, Carly! I wish I could come across a big enough stash of vintage laces to make such a dress in real person size!

Wow!!!!! Don’t take it the wrong way, I love all your creations, but this is going to be not only my favourite of them, but also a day-dream (yes, even for myself, even if just to walk around the house and feel like a princess!!! ;-)) for a while! I can’t believe all the detailed work that went into this!!! Twin-needle pin-tucks? How do you do it on a dress so small?! The style of the dress is drop-dead-gorgeous and the doll is simply amazing in it! Also, congratulations to your photographer (if I am not mistaken, it’s your husband, right?) – it took me a second or two to figure our how you achieved the effect of the “real-size” big tree and building behind her! :-) Amazing project!!!!!

Thank you, Almatinka! It really is a very romantic-princess look, isn’t it? And don’t let the details fool you. They were not done on each piece…..instead, I take a larger piece of fabric and sew pintucks and lace insertion into it and THEN lay the pattern pieces on top of the “designed” fabric. You can center your pieces on the design perfectly and then cut them out, making it look liked you’ve slaved away……heheheheh! You do have to make sure that you stabilize the edges after cutting them out, though….so you don’t lose your pintucks. And yes, my sweet photographer husband is the one responsible for bringing the dolly to “life” for me.

You are welcome! And yes, the dress is definitely very romantic.
Cute idea about sewing in the details before you cut out the pattern pieces, but how do you do the double-needle pin-tucks – I mean, at least on my machine, the “double-needle” option is quite wide (as in the distance between the two needles). And yet those pin-tucks look sooo tiny! Forgive me, if it’s a silly question – I am only learning and some things that cause me to look in awe might seem very straight-forward and easy to figure out for those whose level is as professional as yours. And again – amazing photography!!!!

Thank you, sewella (love your screen name, by the way). One of the nice things about making this in miniature scale though, is it won’t cost an arm and a leg in vintage fabrics and laces…..LOL!

this is amazing, do you do all the stitching by hand? How big is the doll?

Thank you, Freakus Bzzz. Most everything was done by sewing machine (twin-needle pintucks) and serger (french sewing by serger). I think the only thing that I did by hand were the button loops on the back. The doll is about 22 inches tall. She is a BJD (ball jointed doll) from Korea. She poses so nicely because of the joints that she has.
