Description
This was a bit of a challenge! I drafted this pattern (read more about that process on my blog ), the bodice was inspired by an old photo and by various “tied-back” dresses around the internet (like the one from burdastyle member cationdesigns!), and the skirt is a 2/3 circle skirt with a scalloped edge (my first time doing a scalloped edge). I really like the bustier-look of the bodice, even though there’s no “support” to it, other than muslin underlining and self-fabric lining.
For some reason this dress makes me feel like marilyn monroe haha :)
the fabric is quite sheer, that why I underlined it, and made a separate underskirt to go with it (and other flared, sheer skirts). The dress isn’t perfect (the zipper in the back looks like it doesn’t close all the way), but I’m happy with it!

it looks lovely! you can re-do the zipper, or just use a matching thread covered hook and eye above it. that will complete the back looking neat! great job love the hem

That looks lovely! I’m thrilled to have been a small part of the inspiration for such a stunning confection of a dress. The scallops go beautifully with the sweetheart neckline.

so feminine and pretty, and the color is genius… you have mad drafting skills, bustier woman!
i read on your blog you might add a hook & eye for the back zip— if that doesn’t work how about another little tie closure to mimic the top?

that’s a good idea! I might try that! Although I won’t be able to wear it until next summer unfortunately, haha, it’s so cold here in Switzerland… and thank you!
