I made these in January, but now I can finally start wearing them! It’s a mini wardrobe of mix and match pieces made up of two pairs of shorts (Grainline Maritime and Lisette 1879) and two tops (Deer and Doe Datura and Burdastyle Classics 2013 Dress #120).
Datura: Yoke/facing was tricky, but love the results in the end! The details of the buttons in the back (functional but actually unnecessary since I can pull it over with no problems) also make me swoon. Of course what I loved most were the triangle cut outs – they match my geometrical diamond print perfectly!
Burdastyle Classics 2013 Dress #120: The pattern was a dress but I turned it into a top with tie on straps – I had very little fabric left and this sleeveless number was the perfect pattern to get my top out of.
Grainline Maritime: Instructions were OK, but the online photo tutorial was a lot more helpful. I made my first fly zip! Also I love both the front AND back pockets on this pair. So practical!
Lisette 1879 Souvenir shorts: No pockets! What!? No problem. I added my own – welts! Yes, two little welt pockets (my first ever) can be found on the back of my shorts here. Shorts came out a bit too flared for me, but I think that’s just my body. Next time I’ll keep the waist size but grade down the hip size. Love the front pleats. Not in love with the finishing for the zipper – all you do is fold over the top of the zip. Also a bit scared of catching my skin the zip, so next time I’ll add some sort of protector just for prevention sake.
I’m ready for summer now!
