Be still my beating heart!
I recently saw a picture on line of Michelle Williams wearing a red lace dress by Erdem at the 54th Annual Times BFI London Film Festival “Conviction” premiere and my instant reaction was that of delight and envy! It’s bold, it’s classy, it’s definitely different and so of course the fashion reviews are praising it or condemning it. There’s just no pleasing everyone, but that’s what makes fashion so interesting; the diversity of tastes!
Well I am definitely in the ‘love it’ category, check out my last photo with the lovely Miss Williams wearing ‘the dress’ (did you notice the animal print shoes?!!!), and so I decided to make my own version of this dress. I purchased some red lace/tulle and and I took the plunge. The most detailed part of this dress is the bodice and which I based on Vogue pattern #V1230. I then drafted my own sleeves, and cut out a one big triangle for the skirt, which I gathered at the waist.
The whole dress is lined, and I interlined the bodice as well so that you couldn’t see all the exposed seams from the lining. The lace has such a lovely scalloped edge which makes for pretty hemming.
I’m no Michelle Williams, but I’m happy with my version!
