Description

I made this dress in a day following the pattern published in Burda style magazine, November issue. It is a quite straight forward pattern, however the fabric I used is a very thin, weightless lame which I had to line up completely with a thick , heavier lining in oatmeal, similar to that used for curtains.

Due to its shine, I will call this dress my “tin foil” dress!

I wore this dress at the local Christmas faire hoping to inspire people to sparkle!

Due to the shine of the fabric, I kept the accessories to a minimum!

Material Notes

silver lame and oatmeal lining

I have just noticed the comment. not too sure if this would be ok for such an important event unless you have a fabulous fabric, such as brocade or fabric with some body… think smth embroidered, white or cream with a metallic hint. The pattern is true to size, I am an UK size 10 and cut my Burda dresses at size 38. They always come out as a good fit, perhaps a tiny bit loose. please bear in mind that the waistline is a bit higher, and this is not flattering for big busts. Looking at the photos, it was a fun dress to wear however i am not happy with the bust shape. While the dress looks fab on the slimmer model chosen by burda. so, i would say take great care, could be a hit or a miss. check my French toile 50s dress, that is extremely flattering for any body.

Hello… your decision to go for silver metallic was great, and it fits you great. I plan to try it in more “daily” fabric too as I find finally the style to be usefull also for someone like me …

I can’t wait to see your version! The fabric I used is really tricky, does not hold its shape or form at all and if you press with the iron it melts. Mission impossible!
