I found this fabric a couple of months ago and knew it would make a perfect holiday dress! When Burdastyle came out with their holiday dress patterns I saw the metallic dress pattern and had to try it out. It was definitley a challenge for me as I am new to sewing and haven’t had any experience with draping. But I love love love how it turned out! When I first made the dress I had planned to make it cap sleeve like the pattern picture showed.. but after trying it on I thought the 3/4 length sleeve was more fitting for a winter dress. I also made it a little more modern by shortening it just a bit. All in all it was an incredible opportunity for me to expand my sewing skills and I have already gotten several compliments on my new holiday dress!! Hoping to find a few more reasons to wear it out:)
Below are a couple of pictures of the dress during the sewing process and then as the final product!!

I originally passed up this pattern because the model looks awful, but your dress looks amazing! The model has the shape of an 11 year old boy. You look WAY better. Putting this on my list; just have to find the right fabric.

@pinesoapforest, I corrected the “inappropriate” mark. When you download the BurdaStyle size chart just scoll down for the Tall chart. Then you can go off your measurements :)
@bwlowry1, stunning dress!

Hi there. wonderful job. I’m cutting the pattern out now. my question is about the sizing. I don’t understand the numbers. I’m a size 8 according to the burda chart… any idea what that corresponds to? thanks!

That is an 80.. So it should be the third line in from the smallest size.. Does that make sense? Can’t remember what that Line looks like. The pattern is in Tall sizes so it may be a little longer than other patterns you have used.. And also Remember seam allowances aren’t included.. That always throws me off:)

you may be fairly new to sewing but you certainly have it down!
Lovely dress!!
Out of interest what size did you make and if you dont mind me asking what RTW size do you normally wear? I was (until I saw yours) terrified that this would make up like a big sack….so very pleased to see it doesnt and might well give it a try now :)
Thanks!!

So I used the size 6 from the pattern. I usually wear a 4-6 (I dont usually like things super tight on me) but since the seam allowance is not included in the pattern I went with the 6 and used a 1/2 seam allowance. Def give this pattern a try…and let me know how it goes!!

Ohh I love this, congratulations, you’ve done a wonderful job. liked it when I first saw it in the magazine, although I found the length and cap sleeves made it look a bit dowdy. Not so yours, I am actually tempted to look for some nice material now and give this a try myself ! Enjoy wearing it !!
