This is my favourite creation at the moment….
It is a maxi dress with shortened bodice made from a beautiful polyester – surplus designer fabric…
Black and white pattern that catches the eye….
Invisible zipper at back, black polyester lining.
Just beautiful!

Hi, thanks for all the beautiful comments! Holidaypepper ~ the bodice part is a basic princess line bodice, so it has a total of 6 panels. I have then shortened it to finish just under the bustline, then added the skirt. It has a 40cm zipper at the back. You could make it a simple a tube top if you wanted but you wouldn’t have the lovely shape, you may just need to gather the bottom of the tube part slightly under the bust and add a bit of elastic to add a bit of shape and you could use elastic around the top part of the bodice instead of the zipper. If you do the princess line you can then add boning for extra structure if you have a small bust like me :)). Can’t wait to see your maxi dress creation! Good luck! Cherie x

This dress is really inspiring! I’m drafting a pattern in my head for a maxi dress. I can’t really tell, is the bodice simply a tube with elastic at the bottom, or did you add more shaping to it? I’ve been thinking about a sweet-heart neckline, but I love the way you’ve translated this bodice. And the fabric is to die for!
