A third variation of the Shirley 1-shoulder dress, this time as a koi fish in the NYC Mermaid Parade in Coney Island, summer 2011. Some people said it looked like coral but koi was the inspiration. I changed the bottom of the dress and added some ruffly bits and sewed it all up in 1 evening+morning. and I used extra fabric to cover a little totebag and make some arm cuffs.
sparkly spandex from a store in the fashion district—$20/yard and I used almost the whole thing for dress, bag, accessories. Still have some scraps. it shed sparklies and threads like crazy but looks good. didn’t stretch as much as I wanted, maybe will add a zipper.
