Description

This is a long-sleeve dress shirt I made from McCall’s 6890, a vintage 1979 pattern. It has a club collar (slighted narrow and rounded) as opposed to a standard men’s shirt collar. I really like this club collar thing — a little snazzier, in my opinion.

Material Notes

I used a good quality cotton sheet I found at the Salvation Army. More about that sheet on my blog:

Love the (Peter) Pan collar, Peter. I wonder what todays hiring manager would say (or think) if a dude walked in to work with one of these on. This is really cool.

I really like that collar. I am just about to start making a shirt for a friend of mine (I have been putting it off for about two months now…). I think I will do a collar like this.

Oh! It’s perfection! I want to make one just like it for my boyfriend. The collar is such a cool alternative to the options you tend to find now. You’ve just such an awesome job making the placket and pocket stitching so neat. Do you have plans for more from this pattern?

I’d definitely like to make more of this style — this was essentially a practice run (which is why I used the sheet).

It even looked great in person before you added the cuffs/buttons/hem, and now it looks perfect (despite its suspicious origins).

That pattern shows up from time to time on eBay or Etsy. Try Googling it.
