This is a pair of boxers I made from Simplicity 1960, a vintage pattern from 1945. They sit high on the waist, button closed in front, and have an adjustable (buttoned) waistband. I love them but it was work to make them: they have 9 buttons in all, and 8 buttonholes!
I made these out of a piece of an old cotton/poly sheet. Essentially, this is a muslin, but it came out so well I’m posting them here.
There’s also a lot more pics and info about the boxers and the pattern on my blog, malepatternboldness.blogspot.com.
You can ready my extended pattern review, with a link to more pics, at http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=48019

These are fantastic. I cannot believe you have only been sewing since last year. Did you wear vintage clothing before you started sewing or did sewing really get you into it?

No, I’ve been wearing vintage on and off for a long time — well, not always true vintage, but certainly thrift store stuff. Nothing like these boxers though!

Thanks! They were fun to make too. I’d like to do them again in a better quality all-cotton fabric. Thanks for the comment!

At first glance, I thought these were women’s shorts because of the detail on the waistband but I looked harder and realized the physique. I LOVE THESE. Look at that fabric! Look at those pleats! 8 Button holes. GOOD GRIEF.
Sir, we bow down to your skill. Good Day. (^_^)

Thanks for the feedback! I was a lot of work, I guess, but it went pretty fast. I want to do these again in a better quality fabric, maybe something with stripes.
Glad you like them!

Those photo’s are delish! I LOVE those boxers. I love all the comments and I am still trying to figure out how I can trade in my dogs for a hand-held model. Why do women have all these ridiculous panties and men have very little in the way of undergarments? I am inspired to design my hubster a pair of man pants that might give these a run for the money……….. Love these….I agree…one in every colour and fabric perhaps. ;-}

Small dogs have their own problems. Next time I want a big one!
These old boxers patterns are out there and show up on Etsy and eBay often; you just have to wait to find the right size.
Thanks for the feedback!

When I first skimed thru projects I dismissed your boxer shorts because I thought some idiot posted a picture from a magazine. I am so glad I looked at it anyway because these boxers are awesome. What a little gem of a pattern you got there. You should make one in every color and sell them. How are they to sleep in?

Well, I haven’t slept in them yet. That high waistband takes a little getting used to. But they’re great for just lounging around the house. Thanks for the complements! Peter

This is awesome. I love vintage patterns and I think it would be really cool to see some more creations for men on this website! I think the waistband of this boxershort would actually be really nice on a skirt for girls!

I love the waistband best of all — though it was hard to put together with all those buttons and buttonholes.
