Description

I made this casual cotton twill jacket from a vintage men’s shirt pattern and just cut off the bottom and added a waistband. It has princess seams and old black plastic buttons. It also matches my EZ-PZ Kwik Sew pants I made earlier in the week!

Material Notes

I used the same cadet blue cotton twill I used for my pants. I had about 5 yards and I STILL have more!

    Love the look of this! Great cuffs and hem. And like Ralf, I adore the princess seams – hadn’t ever thought about using them on men’s garments. Shows you what I know :)

    I think the shouldes are a bit to wide… it would have a more vintage look if the shoulder from the shirt corresponds with your shoulder…

      I’ll have to disagree with you Basti. I couldn’t fault this jacket. Peter rocks in the sewing department. I wish I had his talent. :-)

      This has nothing to do with talent neighter with beeing a good tailor or a bad. It is just a question of taste. In my opinion would it be nicer to have a shoulder that corresponds with the real shoulder. But I am not the person who decides. If he likes it this way, it will be okay and great!

      In the 70s it was a detail that the shoulders of the clothes were very tend to the body. Look at the cover of this pattern, there also you can see it.

      I did not say that this jacket is bad worked. I like this jacket.
      I have just talked about my own opinion about this way of style… or is that forbidden here?

    Peter, you might become the new Tom Ford… Gorgeous jacket and if I didn’t know otherwise (do I know otherwise? lol) I’d say it’s shop bought.

    hi peter! great job again. i love the princess seams and your choice of material (fabric and buttons) is allways of such good taste. the changes you did to the pattern brought it into our decade and still keeps this vintage hint i adore so much on cloth!
