Being a massive loser and big kid over Christmas, I’ve always wanted to sew myself a special Christmas-themed dress. I wore this one last night to my work Christmas party and will host my own party later on in the month wearing it (as long as there are no stain-producing food accidents!)
This one was inspired by a couple of 50s patterns I own, but I ended up drafting the boddice myself after I got frustrated with the pattern and then almost ran out of fabric (thus the large red midriff section). The skirt is just gathered and contains a good 5m of fabric.
The fabric was called “Colourful Christmas Holly, White,” ha. It’s 100% cotton and was found in the Christmas fabric selection at work (Spotlight- fabric store).

It looks gorgeous ! I love this 50’s style ! Why don’t they have more of patterns like these on Burda website ? Don’t they realize that there are many women who would appreciate more of these beautiful 50’s dresses ?! People please upload some of these patterns !!!

Yes the middrift makes the dress…gives it some extra style. Are there any instructions on how to make this? I’m new, I could try and wing it, but I really want to learn how to follow patterns and such.

Absolutely perfect! The “accident” was a happy one. Without the red midriff the dress would not be nearly as eye-catching, and it looks great on you.

I LOVE it! Great work! It suits you perfectly. I’d LOVE to be as brave as you and just put something together out of different patterns. And the red midriff is just perfect. :)

So cute! Even though the wide midriff piece was an “accident”, I really like the punch of color. :)
