can’t wait for it to get warmer so i can wear this coat. the body of the coat is draped, the collar i drafted. i still got some kinks to work out with stitching the back of the collar to the neckline. i truly love it though. first shawl collar i ever drew.

Hi, lovely coat! I just bought this fabric from Ikea too and am planning on making a similar raincoat from a regular coat pattern. Did you use waterproof thread or waterproof the seams somehow?
Thanks!

I also used this fabric for making a bag (black variation). But your coat looks amazing! That makes me wonder: do I need a raincoat? :-) Thanks for sharing!

Super cool! Is that some kind of plastic cotton some use as table cloth in kitchens?

First of all, it’s really cool! I love that back pleating. And you did a great job on the sleeves. Both drafting and draping well-fitting, well-behaving sleeves can be hard.
About the collar: It seems to ‘fall’ well, so well done on your first shawl collar! However, I was wondering about one thing: if I wanted to make lapels like that, I would draft it as a notched collar, so the top collar would be a seperate piece. The angle at the back of the neck would be te same as for a shawl collar. If you have used instructions on drafting a shawl collar from anywhere, the instructions for drafting notched collars are usually right next to it. (of course I don’t mean to say your collar is in any way ‘wrong’!)
And lastly, the fabric you used, is that Ikea plastic coated fabric, by any chance? I made a bag out of that stuff and those dots look very similar.

hi lauriana, you’re absolutely right about the fabric! and thanks for all your nice comments. i had to do the sleeves about 50 times…
the reason i didn’t do a 2 part collar was time is money – it’s so hard to keep everything somewhat reasonably priced i figured that was one thing i could skip. if i just made the coat for myself i definitely would have done the notched kind.
thanks so much!
