Burda Style For people who sew
Description
i made this white dress shirt for my husband from mccalls 6044. while the pattern as is lacks many details you find in the RTW standard, the overall fit is good so i have drafted the pieces necessary to make it look like a “real” shirt. this is my second version (the first was a casual plaid shirt, posted here) and since this one is for business wear i added collar-stay channels. the neck on the first shirt was a little snug so i widened it by about 5/8"; i also shortened the sleeve by 1/2". the other change i made was to extend the front of the shirt so i could sew the placket on at the edge, then turn the seam allowance and topstitch it from the front.
at a certain point, i think this stops being a mccalls shirt and starts to be my own. it’s definitely a learning process! more info on my blog: notes from a mad hosewife
