I thought I’d sew something quick and easy. This looks quite simple, doesn’t it? Well… it was easy enough, but there are eight darts around the waist (that takes TIME, at least for me), and the necktie and cuffs took some figuring out (although this was one of the apparently rare vintage patterns with good, illustrated instructions).
I was very surprised to realise that the pattern was for a bust-size 1.5 inches smaller than mine, I must have a very strange figure since everything made for my bust measurement ends up too big (esp. since I’m only a B-cup…).
Well, I’m glad that I had forgotten it should have been too small when I cut the material, otherwise it would have been a lot more work with grading it up and then downsizing it!

Cotton, very cheap remnant (skr 25/m, about 2.50 euro's), but very good quality so I returned to the shop and got the lot, I now have 10m's of blue cotton...!

Thank you! The pants are a sample from Swedish brand Whyred. I’ve been intending to copy them for a while though (not enough time)… I’d love a khaki pair.

This blouse has been in my sewing daydreams ever since you posted it… I wonder how difficult it would be to draft a pattern like this? Since I probably wouldn’t be able to buy it in my size anyway, it make some sense to try it from scratch…

Hm, I actually don’t think it would be awfully difficult, especially since there is no collar… the cuffs are probably the hardest bit to get right.
Have you looked for vintage patterns your size? I think it’s a myth that it’s impossible to find larger sizes, I often find patterns in a bust size around 44" when I search for my 32". Though I’ll admit the 32"-patterns are more common… but give it a go!

Admittedly I haven’t spent any time looking for vintage patterns in my size, so you’re right, I shouldn’t assume it will be a disaster. I think I might have a go at drafting this, though. With the technical drawings that you’ve been nice enough to post I think it should be possible, since the tricky part of figuring out the general shapes of the pieces is already done. I have a bright blue silk that is screaming to be made into this blouse!

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments, they make me happy! I’m especially glad you think the colour suits me, since I have so much more of the material ;-). I’ll probably post more made with it quite soon… (if I can settle for ONE thing instead of about four at the same time…).

I agree with everything everyone has said. You did a fab job and it looks amazing! Sizing with vintage patterns (at least what I have seen) can be quite different from what we have on patterns today – I think people’s body shapes must have changed (and what undergarments worn then as opposed to what we wear now)! My Mum said they used to advertise bras back then that would stay pointy even after a steamroller had run over them – true story! Love it with the pants – great job Darl!

That’s sooooo pretty! Looks nice & practical/comfortable to wear too :) The illustrations from the pattern remind me of Betty Grable / Doris day.

I LOVE this top!! The shape is somehow unmistakably vintage, but completely modern at the same time. I’ll have to keep my eye out for this pattern online.
