Description

Maybe it will be cold,
Maybe there will be sun,
Maybe I will sit,
Maybe I will run.

A layering piece, with detachable hood, for wherever climate change takes the day. The stripey remnant came first. A long garment would use its length, well – I thought. And so… I took the body of Simplicity pattern (Miss) 3634 ‘C’ (lengthened) with the arm bands of ‘A’.

And then… the hoodie from Lydia with a variation from me. The curved top ridge of the Lydia hood is cut straight to make the sharp peak in the hood. Cut two hoods and sewed them together for double warmth. And it’s removable!

You don’t see any seams because there aren’t any to see. Hand stitched hem. Hand stitched neck facing. The hood, two layers stitched on the inside. Not a stitch in sight.

Achievements:
– 1st lengthening of pattern piece
– 1st remnant used <7days of purchase
– 1st pattern variation and combination

NB for plus-size version of this project I recommend NEW LOOK 6305. It made my shortlist when searching for the right pattern for the cardigan body.

Material Notes

Textured stripey cotton poly (black and white); Cotton rib (black); Press studs

A hooded dress is very cool! If you haven’t found one already, a good dress to add a hood to would be dress ’ C’ in Butterick B5398 – if you like a v-neck.

At only $2.50 the Lydia hood is cheap and easy to adapt to what you have in mind. I will keep an eye out for your dress.
