I love this maxi dress (since I’m tall most store bought ones end somewhere around my calves!) but I found the Burdastyle magazine instructions really badly written. I really think this would be a great project for a novice sewer but the instructions are so complicated it would be a total put off for someone with little experience. I did take some photos as I made my dress and wrote out some clearer instructions for making the bodice part on my blog if it helps you to give it a go.

In all, I really like the dress. It has an invisible zipper down the back and it uses a ton of fabric! I bought 5 yards and don’t have much left over. I didn’t add the lace detailing that the instructions seem to talk about, but I put piping around the back and neckline which I really like.

Lovely dress! I have the opposite problem, i’m short so i’d be tripping over a store bought maxi dress ;)

Too funny! Since I started making my own clothes I’ve been noticing how badly some store-bought things actually fit me. Hooray for making clothes that fit properly!

Thanks, I love the color too. It was as Kona cotton in raisin. Describes it perfectly!
