I saw Nenasew’s Cotton Lawn Prairie Dress project and I thought the general style had great potential for a drawstring maternity dress. Especially with the thicker straps. I can’t wear strapless bras and I hate it when my straps show! So I drafted the pieces based on my measurements. I had to tailor it to my body, as my bust has gotten huge since I got pregnant, but I think it would be pretty simple for anyone to make.
I didn’t gather under the bust at all, I just let the draw string do all the work. I also sewed the entire dress with flat felled seams because I can’t stand to have raw edges showing on the inside of a garment, but I didn’t want to weigh the dress down by lining it.
