I cannot believe it is complete! This is maybe the second dress I’ve ever sewn and it has a ton of features I’ve never done:
- It is fully lined, and the bodice’s lining is separate from the skirt’s lining (the bodice is actually lined twice!).
- It has an invisible zip – which I could not have done without this tutorial.
- the bottom ends are finished off using a special setting on the serger
- the cloth is chiffon which was very tricky to straighten for cutting and sewing. The lining is some sort of stretch satin.
- it has princess seams – the round seams on the bust area were tricky!
- finishing off the sleeves with a bias strip – that was really fun – looking forward to doing it more!
Anyway you get the point!
It was a stepping stone in my everlasting learning of the wonderful craft of sewing. I don’t know if I’ll wear it, maybe to a special occasion. The bust area is a bit “unstable”, I would probably feel uncomfortable that it might open up or slip down. The straps are almost off the shoulders – this dress was designed that way, and it was supposed to have sleeves, and this is not natural for me to wear (I am used to the straps being closer to my neck). I need to fix the hem – it isn’t straight. But anyway! My next project is a simple stretch cotton red dress with white piping. I hope it’ll be a breeze compared to this complicated baby! I learned so much though!!!
Tell me what you think! :-)

You are welcome! And thank you! LOL, she’s the prettiest and shiniest dog I ever had, indeed! :-) And she knows she’s pretty! :-) (I have another one, but he’s a “tramp” compared to her and his character matches his appearance! :-))

This doesn’t look like only your second dress! Very nice job. Here’s a tip from a veteran… When I use a fabric like chiffon which seems to shift around while you’re cutting out the pattern, I start by pulling the fabric taut on my cutting table and taping the ends down with painters tape to keep it stable. I also use weights (heavy metal rings from Loews – much cheaper than the ones at fabric stores) and a roller cutter. There’s less movement of the fabric which can cause inaccurate cutting. Keep up the good work!

those are great tips! Thanks! I’ll be sure to use them next time I meet up with a chiffon (or similarly shifty) fabric :-)
