Description

So here’s my entry to the competition. Phew! I thought I couldn’t make in time…

Inspired by the 50s, from an actual dress from this era : a white embroided cotton dress my grandma gave me a month ago (see my inspiration picture). I had to unmake it in order to get the pattern right, which is a crime against fashion… But I will sew it back, I swear!

So it is basically the same, except for the darts I changed into princess seams, and I made it longer. It will be my prom dress. I also added a belt with a flower, inspired from this project

I made an organza stole that is wrapped around the bust, but the pictures really don’t advantage it. Too much light with the flash.

I really like that era, because it makes such a feminine figure, I absolutely LOVE the “Corolle” collection from Dior, the “flower-woman”… And I think it suits my body type quite well.

Thanks to my friend Flo, I have so many beautiful pictures it’s hard to choose which ones to publish… That’s why there are so many!

i’ve seen your technique on how to draft the bodice, but can you explain how you did the neckline and collar?

Hi, there’s no collar, it is just the shoulder seam that continues up on the neck.
      I didn’t draft it actually, it’s from my grandma’s dress…

This is so beautiful. I’m planning on copying it for the prom I am going to. I was wondering where you put the zipper…? I’m guessing in the back, for the collar to fit?

It is really very pretty :)

Oh oh thanks, so my invisible zipper really is invisible?? ;)
Yes at the back, because the neckhole is so small!!

If you want to copy it, the technique I made may help you (I explain how to draft the top). (See “related technique”)
I’ll be happy to answer your questions if you don’t get it.

Whoua!! elle te va à la perfection! Bravo!

How wonderful it must be to share this with your grandmother and how proud she must be. The dress is exquisite. Well done.

Thank you! Well I guess I could, but It would be only my size, I don’t know if it would be interesting…

It would definitely be interesting! And it’s not too hard for people to grade the pattern to their own size. I’d love to see it!

Hi, I didn’t post the pattern because I made so many alterations, I’m not sure it looks like the actual dress anyway…
But I explain how to draft the bodice here
And the skirt is just a circle skirt.
I hope it’ll be useful, if you have any question feel free to ask.
