I saw a residual piece of this large print fabric from Marimekko’s spring 2009 collection and thought that it would be nice for a charlie bag. The whole print can be seen at http://www.marimekko.fi/FI/sisustus/kankaat/maijalouekari/kevat2009/karkuteilla_170.htm. The legs shown at the bag are from an elephant, pelican and an okapi.
Marimekko’s cotton fabric “At large” (“Karkuteillä” in Finnish), designed by Maija Louekari.

Thanks for the comments! The game you depict is unfamiliar to me, but sounds interesting! The name Marimekko comes from the vernacular Finnish form of the girl’s name “Mary” and mekko, which means “dress” in Finnish. I read that the founder’s (Armi Ratia) second name was Maria, where the name idea came from.

It’s even nicer when you know that the colour blocks are parts of animals but don’t know what the animals look like and try to imagine it. There is sort of a game: You fold some paper in three or four parts and person one paints a head, the next one the upper part of the body, … not knowing what the first person’s part looks like. In the end you unfold the paper and get to see a funny creature. Do you know that?
Does Marimekko mean something or is it just the name of the brand? This question has been in my head for a while..
