I’ve been going a little nuts for the Marie pattern lately – this is my second time using it and I have ideas for a few more! I used some satin that I found on sale, and only altered the pattern a little bit to make the waistband higher. It was my first time working with this kind of fabric, and it went pretty well except the hem stitching looks a bit lumpy – any tips?

I want to make this with a higher waistband like yours, did you just add a few centimetres to the top of the waistband pattern piece? It looks kind of shaped, did you add princess seams to the side of your waistband?
As for your hem stitching, I get that problem too, the only thing that I have found to solve the situation is to use bondaweb (like double sided interfacing) to hold the hem up instead of stitching it, it’s a bit of a cheat but you get a nice, clean neat hem and its very quick Alternatively you can hand stitch it with a hidden hem stitch but that takes ages!!

Hi Candy,
I actually just traced the waistband pattern piece, to keep the curved shape of it, and added about 1.5 inches to the top. The only other thing I changed was to bring in the waistline a bit, since this sits higher than the normal Marie pattern. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the tip about the hem – that’s a really good idea!
