First I just wanted to draft a simple A-line-dress, but then I got this very lovely felted/boiled wool and thought about a dress with the seam allowances showing.
As two seam allowances weren’t enough I’ve added some more seams during the process of drafting and ended up with “Many Seams”.
I had to print out and glue together more than 50 pages from my printer. No fun at all, but I guess it was worth the efforts.
I always start working with 1 cm seam allowances. They were cut back after sewing and fitting.
The material didn’t need any hemming, but I have added a row of stitching around the neck- and hemline as well as around the armholes to prevent the fabric from stretching out. The stitching was done with a twin-needle so it’s slightly elastic.
The dress itself is unlined.
I thought about adding a lining, but then decided to leave it as it is. The solution was an extra underdress, so it doesn’t “climb up” when worn with thick woolen tights.
It also can be worn over jeans, as a tunic (which, in fact, I did more often)!
