Dalhart, Texas, ...

This is my six year old son’s very first project to sew. He wanted to sew so badly he bugged me about it all week until I finaly caved and asked him what he wanted to make and he simply said “a man band”. At first I had no clue what he was talking about then he showed me what he was thinking of.
Oh, he is a natural on my sewing machine. He did a zigzag stitch to conect the two ribbons and hand sewed the snaps. I not wanting him to get his little fingers too close to the machine needle folded and stiched the ends down, the rest was ALL him…..

Material Notes

Grossgrain ribbon 1 1/2" Brown
Grossgrain ribbon 1" Camoflage
1 medium sized snap

Garment Type
Military, Punk, Rock

this is awesome!!! My mum taught me when I was about 7, it’s such a valuable skill! My little brother started learning too, together we made him some new bed clothes from some Camoflage cotton we found in an army disposals store. It was a butch enough project for him and sewing all those long seams was great practice! He even got so into it he used up the remnants to make some cushions and I think even a little tote bag to keep his “choose your own adventure” books in. !!! I hope your son gets as into it…

Yea, I would like it if my son’s at least knew how to operate a sewing machine or even do it by hand. I got lucky with my six year old he loves anything hands on, my four year old is more of the “I tell you what I want made and you make it” type of guy.
