I bought She Has A Mannish Style this past winter, and I must say every single pattern is a dream for me. I haven’t had the time to sew in a very long time but I knew once I got started again I would be sewing everything from this book. Here is my first project. It is a synthetic mustard colored “silk” charmeuse from Joanne’s Fabric. One of the things I miss the most from nyc is the availability of beautiful inexpensive and unique natural textiles and trimmings. The binding is a black cotton quilting with small irregular grey circles that remind me of stones that I cut on the bias. I bought the cotton out of the remanants basket knowing I would find some use for it eventually. Although these two fabrics done really go well together I enjoy the result and love the little bit of pattern interest in the binding. Because the synthetic charmeuse was difficult to work with and neither machine sewing nor hand blind hemming looked polished i finished it off with cheaters tape… I mean iron on hem tape lol.
The result is a loose fitting crop top with some interesting curves that I believe can be dressed up or down. A perfect come back piece to sewing :)
