Maiden serger project - what was I thinking?

Description

I loved the look of this workout tank in the magazine and thought it would be a great project for me to try out my new serger (or overlocker, as we Brits say).

But boy oh boy! It was quite complex with all the curved panels, lining and zip. I messed up with that blade, here and there, but it turned out okay – and thoroughly wearable – in the end.

I even recycled the zip from the hip pocket on an old pair of Nike bottoms. So it cost me about £8 in total, which is great as I usually spend about £40 on workout tanks that don’t really fit to my liking (too low on the armscyes and neck, usually).

So, in at the deep end but waving, not drowning!!! Well, I hope so anyway!

Material Notes

Nice quality black swimwear fabric I bought from an eBay shop.

It looks great Teeny, whatever problems you had putting it together doesn’t show in the final project. Ive had my fair share of serging disasters but we live and learn :-)

This is a beautiful top and, believe me, you are the only one who can see the imperefections, so don’t mention them at all! I’ll definetely make this top this summer…And I wish I had a srerger…

Thank you, Elpida for these comments – I must say though, your creations are just awesome! You really should get a serger and try out your magic on it :)

Doesn’t look half bad if you ask me! I think you did quite a good job on this! And it only gets better and better with the overlocker, I sew in sleeves with it now after believing straight lines is pretty much what I’ll be able to do with it :)

Thanks so much, sweet Maria. Yes I’m sure it will get better in time. I took up a RTW lined skirt with it the other day and it was so quick! I did the blind-hemming with the sewing machine but even that was a lot easier with the serger edge to use as a guide! Happy days :)
