Retro “madmen” style dress, lined, from new Butterick re-released retro ‘56 #B5813. I made this dress to wear to a Christmas party in Geneva Switzerland at which a lot of parents from my kids school would be in attendance. I wanted to strike a conservative note since I am the treasurer of the PTA. The style is sexy but reserved. It was quite comfortable to wear. I opted for the side zipper vs. the second option of hooks and eyes. The dress took a long time to make but it was not particularly difficult. Be sure to press seams as you go along. I am not well endowed and found that I needed to wear a padded push up bra to fill out the form! The hem is very long – I wound up cutting off quite a bit so that it would hit just below the knee as would be appropriate for the late 50’s. I would like to try the full skirt version next time in a silk taffeta.
