This is Macaroon by Colette Patterns. I used a cotton woven for the self fabric and a kona cotton for the contrast. I fell in love with this pattern the moment I saw it. I was a little concerned about how it would ultimately look on me – but I was pleasantly surprised!

Thanks thats helpful. The more I look at this dress (I’ve ‘pinned’ it) I just love the combo, and would love to make one similar for myself… is there anywhere you know of that I can get that floral fabric? Last question I promise!!

No problem! I go to Hancock Fabrics here in Baton Rouge (it is the only fabric store in BR that sells dress fabric) but I bet there is something similar at most places like Joanne’s, etc. I found it on the giant rack of fabric usually used for quilting/non clothing projects. At Hancock the section is semi color sorted so the wall looks like rainbow. I usually try to avoid using that fabric for clothing because it is not as durable, but I loved this print so much I couldn’t help myself! It is quite easy to sew with too.
PS Hancock has a website- you might be able to order it. Happy hunting!

Hi again, did you use a woven for the pinky contrast fabric…what is kona?

Hi there! Kona is another type of cotton. At my local fabric store it has its own shelf near the wovens. It’s a little thicker and more durable. It comes in the whole rainbow. I don’t know that it was the best choice for the top of this dress – the contrast should probably be lighter weight than the rest of the dress. But I would use it again for other projects.
Thanks for the question!
