Description

I made this lovely blouse from McCalls 6650 pattern in silk charmeuse. I used view A with the long sleeves of view C. I used french seams throughout, even for the arm hole/sleeve seam (the first time for me doing a french seam in the armhole, but I will be doing this technique again for sure in the future). I made an extra button hole on the back neck placket, for extra support here, plus I love the vintage 1940’s German glass buttons I bought for this blouse at Button Emporium in Portland, Oregon. and I had an extra button. I love this pattern and style, however, it did gobble up a great deal of fabric, over 3 yards, as the neck tie piece is quite wide and long, and cut out twice on the bias. I love my new luxe blouse, and plan to make a nice skirt or two to wear with this.

Update: Threads Magazine (Tauton Press) asked to feature this very blouse, my blouse, on their monthly regular print magazine spread, “Insiders Closet” coming soon. Threads Magazine! Sorry Burda, gotta grab this one :)

Congratulations on having your beautiful Pussy bow blouse in Threads. I have that magazine sent to me in Australia and I will be thrilled to see your blouse in it. Well done.

It looks so luxurious. I read your blog and saw how school kept you quite busy. Congrats on finishing. I’m in my last semester of MBA program and can’t wait to sew all day and night. Lol

So glamorous for this festive season. you look beautiful. the satin silk is perfect for the blouse. I didn’t know you could do French seams on an armhole. I will try it next time. did you have to snip it around before pressing?

Thank you Kirsten! I didn’t know it either, then I googled it and found a tutorial on doing a French seam in the armhole. I did it by sewing the wrong sides of the armhole and the sleeve together first at about 3/8 of an inch, pressed the stitches, trimmed them down, turned the sleeve to the inside, pressed the seams flat together right sides together, then slowly and carefully sewed again at about 1/4 inch, “feeling” for the seam allowance underneath and sewing right next to it. It came out beautifully!

Thank you Sewingfan1! The fabric really is a gorgeous silk! I saw a similar silk bow designer blouse online selling for about $700! Maybe I should be selling mine too!
