Description

Luette and Todd, good friends, tied the knot on the shores of Crystal Lake, MI. Two months prior to the wedding, Luette had already bought 3 or 4 wedding dresses, disliked all of them and was ready to take a chance on me.

Luette wanted a full-length dress, with a slight train. But, as she would be barefoot on the beach, she didn’t want the dress dragging in the sand. She also did not like the gathered front the pattern called for. So I modified the gathers by sewing it tight across the front and using a gather across the back. The bust and skirt still didn’t line up so I created a pleat that continued down the back of the dress to the flare. The front flare was flush with the dress, but the back flare was a full circle of material to give it the swishy train feeling, as well as adding about 4-5 inches of length.

Material Notes

top layer: raw Indian silk. Bottom layer: Hemp blend

Wel done! The dress looks very well made and the bride and groom seem pretty happy with it.

Sorry it’s a few months late: thanks for your compliments! The bride was extremely happy with the dress, which is probably the best compliment one could have!
