i made this skirt up for the sew weekly mom’s day challenge, using my nan as inspiration since i already used my mom previously.
unfortunately the memories of my nan and how much i miss her made me so sad, the skirt is full of regret and is UNWEARABLE. i need to find a new home for it!
more on my nan at oonaballoona: in which i figure it out in the end
i used vintage vogue 9172, but the swayback adjustment went awry as the back bodice & skirt were all one piece. so, knowing nan would not want me to abandon ship, i hacked it into a skirt. invisible side zip & tiebacks.

Your blogpost made my eye teary because you wrote so many beautiful things about your Nan. And because I felt you were writing for me… Mine passed away 3 years ago, and my Mom and I still mention something she would say almost every day. My Grandma wouldn’t leave the house without lipstick… Ha! She showed me how to sew, so I’m doing it for her too. With her pins. Thank you for… I don’t know… your words and this cute and inexpensive skirt! :)

thank you so much. i’m so glad to have reminded you about your grandma— you reminded me that nan never went out without her coral lipstick on!
how wonderful that she taught you how to sew, it must feel like she’s there every time you stitch.

Shouldn’t be too hard to find a new home for the skirt, it’s beautiful. Sorry to hear it made you so sad, I hope the good memories of moments you shared will prevail.

I already told you I loved your post, but I don’t think I told you how much I love the skirt. Your Nan had great taste in colors: yellow and blue FTW!
