This is my brand new “little red” dress. It´s based on the Hope Wrap Dress by erdronen. I thought of making a red dress and found some jersey with this fantastic red color (and lilac too, so the second dress will follow). A wrap dress pattern was just the right one. So thank you, erdronen, you´ve made my day. The sewing took actually two days, mainly because the fabric was a little transparent so I had to buy some more and make two layers.
So the dress is lined with the second layer of jersey. That´s also why I didn´t used bias tape, only for the ties. The pattern is great and very easy. I made it a little bigger (it´s 34 in original) and let out the sleeves since I wanted a summer dress. You can wear the shoulder part in two different ways. Since I used the second layer for lining there´s nearly no visible stiching. Also because I used some miraculous tape for the bottom – no idea how you call it in english – which I didn´t know before. You just need to iron it on the edge of the fabric and than fold and iron again – no need for stiching. Just great! I just hope it will hold :)

wow love your version especially the red, it looks very classy and great on you :)
do you mind my asking, when you used that pattern was the seam allowance included or did you have to add it yourself?

thank you very much.
that´s a good question.. that´s how I made the pattern bigger – I needed ca. 36 so I added the seam allowance (in original it´s allready included how I understood). I also added ca. 0,8 cm on the front parts (front seams) because I was affraid the neckline could be too open and I preffer rather sexy color than sexy skin :) (also all my skirts go to the knees). so I sewed next to the original seam. you can also bind it tight or loose and make it a little bigger or smaller in this way.

I’ve been planning on making this one up for ages. It’s basically winter here (we’ve already had snow!) so I’ll definitely be leaving the sleeves in but I love your idea of lining it. It looks fantastic in red. How has the tape held up to being washed?

Don´t know yet. I washed the fabric before sewing (it´s a knit.. my hands were red too afterwards) and like I said the dress is brand new – finished 2 days ago. My mum said I don´t need to wash it I should just make a new one because it took really only two days to sew it. :)) So we will see.
A tip for you: what about a sleevless version for the summer with a polo/turtle neck/skivvy (thanx wikipedia) for colder days. I thought about a black one with black stockings…
and a big thank you for the compliments

What a beautiful wrap dress. You did such a wonderful job. Congratulations. Steam-A-Seam I think is the fusible I think you’re referring to. Fusibles and temporary stabilizers are a sewer’s best friends! And they play well together.

Thank you for the compliments and for the english name of this fusible (I think I call it magic anyway because it really is :))
