I made this for my niece. This was my first foray into children’s clothing. I used BurdaStyle’s Sophia in 3T. Pretty straight-forward. The only alteration I made was flipping around the sleeve pattern and making a gathered cap sleeve.
The dress is fully lined, and hemmed with black bias binding on the hem and sleeves. Loop and button closure in the back. It’s pretty easy to go crazy with nice finishings when the garment you’re working with is so small.
The best part of this has to be the fabric. I loaded up the last time I was at IKEA on all the Cecelia series fabrics (I’ve seen a lot of people with the black and white birds, which I also have). I think kids clothing can be so cutesy, but I think this turned out fairly modern, while still being appropriately girly.
I plan to make a matching dress in 18mo for my other niece. I know, cute overload.

First glance I thought there was a flap on the front of the dress, then I realised it was the fabric. The black bias binding ties in really well with the fabric. I love IKEA fabric.

Cute cut cute! I agree, the fabric is a bit grown up/modern but still girly, great job, the piping is great too, good choice. And how cool is Ikea fabric? I am making skirt out of one of their heaver weight fabrics, I can already tell I’m going to love it and it’s still just in pieces!

its very lovely. and the fabric works really well sort of over sized print in this size, love the black edging really makes it. I keep seeing lovely uses of IKEA fabric on Burda Style … i normally just walk right past fabric so must stop and check it out next time I’m there.
