This skirt was partly inspired by a fantastic high waist skirt pattern I snagged when Mom and I were thrifting earlier this month, and by Gertie’s stylish bow skirt (http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2010/03/emma-outfit.html). I have long been contemplating the merit of bows on skirts and Gertie’s creation and the arrival of this pattern just cinched it for me. I ended up only using the pattern for the basic skirt pieces, and free-forming my own bow, but it turned out pretty darn cute!
I used a steel blue cotton twill for the outer fabric, and then lined it (using this method: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4971/a-shortcut-to-great-linings) with a rayon lining (my favorite). I really love the super curvy fit (although it’s still a bit big over the hips for me; I have really weirdly shaped hips!), the high waist that cinches, and the way it moves when I walk. hehe!

Thanks! :) The top is an antique nightgown that I shortened (the hem was damaged) into a blouse. :)

Thanks! I pretty much followed the pattern directions (the pattern is pictured at the end of image slideshow). The most important part of construction though was interfacing the waistline area—it really helped make the skirt look professional!

I love the skirt (and the whole outfit for that matter…the shoes…!) I’m working on my first Kasia right now , so I have checked out the quick lining tip (thanks a lot fot that one). Could you give me (and others, I’m sure) a quick tip what to do with the lining and the back slit: you don’t sew the lining to the seam allowance of the shell hem, right? But doesn’t it show in the slit when you walk? Sorry, I tried to look it up- but nothing…

Thank you! I basically tacked the hem of the lining around the turn-under for the slit at the back on my pattern (leaving about 1" around the slit of the turn back fashion fabric so if the slit inside opens, the lining doesn’t show). Does that make sense? It’s kind of hard to describe, but I just manipulated the lining until I got it to lay where I wanted it to—so it wouldn’t show!

It’s adorable!! The fit looks good, and it doesn’t look too big over the hips. I really like the design without a waistband! Very elegant.
