I saw this sweet black linen at the local fabric shoppe in our town in China and knew I had to make something out of it! I have a divine little trench pattern and thought it would be perfect for this stiffish black linen. I changed my mind as soon as the idea for this one shouldered lipstick red button backed LBD idea came to me. I made a pattern out of an old 80’s computer print sheet first (which my husband couldn’t stand because of the absurd colors and shapes on it!), but I worked on this dress over about a day and a half and was so excited by it that I’m not sure I remembered to eat or drink… I Love the way it turned out. I took these pictures to show my family but intended to take more artistic looking ones upon return to the states. I didn’t count on being busy until my baby bump makes this dress look… well, a bit more maternity! (Ironically the front dart makes for a very easy maternity shift dress!) Perhaps once I get my figure back I’ll take nicer pictures but now, from a place far far away from my Chinese living room, these pictures look PERFECT. Seeing that piece of home, that room so familiar brings me so much joy and homesickness at the same time!
Black stiff Linen, Red lipstick colored shiny round buttons… (I bought enough that I made two into earrings to wear with it at my brother in law’s rehearsal dinner!)

love the simplicity and the “wow! attention grabbing” buttons:) And a one shoulder dress is something I can never resist…

Thanks so much! aw, the blog is in process… not too much there as of yet. Thanks for your encouragement! It’s been hard getting back into sewing since we got back to the states. I am starting to find my inspiration here!
