McCalls 5106: ©1959; Misses’ and Junior Sheath Dress “Easy To Sew”. Sheath dress with cut out neck and choice of two set in sleeves. Long darts, back and front, center back zipper and low pleat. Short sleeves, gathered at shoulders, are self lined. Dress may also be lined.
This pattern is labeled “Easy” by the McCall company, and I would agree. It is a basic sheath with a front cut on the fold, two back pieces and two choices of sleeves. It doesn’t get much more basic than that!
With minimal grading (from a 32 to 34” bust), I was able to make this fit.
I decided to swap out the sleeves and substitute these from a fabulous blouse pattern.
I also added to and stitched the back vent closed, which is just a personal preference.
To keep the sheer fabric from being incredibly revealing, I underlined the dress front and back pieces with some satin rayon from the stash.
I would highly recommend this pattern. The drafting is lovely.
I just know I will be using the pattern again and again, probably with the slim fitted sleeves. And a bit of modification to the neckline might be fun as well!
