Hmm. I don’t quite see the point of the protests about the model being “too thin,” since the whole point of circle skirts is that they fit well on a variety of body shapes. Isn’t it?

The skirt is great. However, this isn’t the forum for commenting on someone’s weight.

I love this skirt, just saw one similar to it on free patterns yesterday. it is simple and I love the contrast of skirt and belt.

This model is far too thin. Does not enhance the style at all, which would really suit a curvy woman. Sorry to criticize, but isn’t it time someone set an example for women and girls?

I like a lot this combination with the sweet yellow belt.

Gorgeous! It’s styled to perfection too. It’s one of those pieces that you’ll wear forever. Thanks for sharing (^_^)

I’m a new sewer and wondered if instead of a fitted waist I could sew in elastic to make this easier. It looks like it is worn with a shirt over it anyway. Anyone know if this might be a good idea to make this more simple or am I being needlessly intimidated by the fitted waistline? (Also I just had a baby and my waistline is slowly decreasing.. this might prevent me from taking this in as I regain my pre-baby shape…or at least settle back into a new normal! : )

It is possible, and very easy as well… The circle skirt with an elastic waistband is the easiest thing you will ever sew… Check out this great tutorial at Dana Made It,

Watch out if you’re short-waisted! I had to remove the waistband, cut some off the top and then reattach the waistband.

I might be missing something obvious, but can this skirt actually be used in the larger pattern sizes?
For the sizes toward the higher end, the pattern is too wide for 60" wide fabric.
For example,
Pattern piece for front & back skirt is to be cut on fold. It is 35" wide at widest point. This would require a 70" wide fabric, which is basically unavailable.
Has anyone tried this pattern in the larger size range? Is there something I’m missing that would make the layout work on 60" wide fabric?

Put a seam in the middle of the front and back. It won’t be hugely obvious unless you’re using a directional print, and it will help this and any other circular skirt pattern work on larger sizes. I do this with my own circular skirt pattern. It works well. I’ve made 5 or 6 skirts from this pattern – I don’t wear pants, so dresses and skirts are my wardrobe staples.

I like the skirt! And the shirt! Is there a pattern for the shirt?

Hey burdawallahs, please post a photo of the waistline on this skirt without a belt or anything else covering it up. It seems from the pics people have posted of completed skirts (and on the broadcloth mock I’m making up at the moment) that the lack of curvature in the waist band is giving a funny fit at the waist. I think a rectangular waistband is fine for low waisted stuff but since this skirt sits so high the waistline seems to actually emphasize ‘bumps and lumps’ i.e. narrow at the centre and pouffy outwards thereafter-not an awesome silhouette … =S On the finished projects part this seems to show more on the skirts made with thin/clingy fabrics.. Maybe I’ll try it a size bigger than my true waist size..or alter it to sit at the hips instead of the waist…

I agree. The model is also far too thin. Does not enhance the style at all, which would really suit a curvy woman. Isn’t it time someone set an example for women and girls?
