Butterick 5748: MISSES’/MISSES’ PETITE DRESS: Lined dress has close-fitting bodice, flared skirt (Cut on crosswise grain of fabric), side zipper and very narrow hem. A: attached bows. Purchased petticoat.
I managed to make a ridiculous mistake on this project – because the back bodice scoop is almost the same level as the armhole, I stitched my lining pieces with the center back seams as side seams. Whoops! It was an easy fix, but I did not notice until I went to stitch the lining to the bodice. That will teach me to ignore markings!
Other than my silly boo-boo, this was extremely easy to put together (especially since I was working with a stable quilting cotton!).
The slits in the front and back bodice are lovely, but they do make the neckline quite wide. If you have narrow shoulders, View B may be a safer bet.
Because this dress needed a little something extra, I added some contrasting piping to the waist seam. The fact that there are not very many pieces to deal with always makes adding those extra details more fun!
More pictures may be found over on my blog, Lilacs & Lace.
Plan a weekend getaway in these sweater dresses and furry accessories.
