It’s summer here in Australia. This light jersy has a subtle sheen and a colour somewhere between silver, blue and white… like a cloud.
This is another ‘training’ dress (after the “Italian dot net”). I am warming up to use a ‘grand’ fabric.
Neue Mode pattern 23156 -
Positives: quick to sew
Negatives: no seam allowances with pattern (not like our burda!); tricky to finish arm-hole seams without facings
A couple firsts:
– my first twin needle technique (last photo shows the ‘hack’ second cotton spool made with blu-tack and a cotton tip!)
– my first light cotton jersey dress
light cotton jersey

So fresh and lovely. I could live in dresses like this one. Love your cotton bud spool hack!

Thank you! I thought about embellishing it, and the colour and cut told me not to. It is nice to hear you agree.

Very cute dress!!!! I can sort of see what you mean about the colour of the fabric from the photos, but I am sure it’s even prettier in person!

Hello Masha, It is sometimes hard to tell with colours on the computer – one of my friends said this looked cream-coloured !? It should have an icy look to it. I might have called it an icy or snow dress if I was where you are now… in the winter and snow! How are you going with your netting material, the one with the snake-skin like pattern? Understandable if you wait for summer to work with such a light material. Thank you for your encouragement.

Hi! :-)
No, it does not look cream-coloured for me – it looks sort of light bluish-grey, but no silver and no sheen, which is why I said I was sure it looked better in person.
And yeah, I guess it would “fit” my weather more now… ;-)
As for the material – I did do something with it (the godets on my skirt and the whole crop-top are made out of that, but I have a whole bunch of it left (I told you I loved it, didn’t I? ;-)), because back when I bought it I already had the outfit I have already made in mind, but I also at once wanted to make a dress out of it as well. It turned out that it was easier to work with than the black stretchy knit, so I am sure the dress would be coming along soon. I just want to make a couple of cotton things (from the cotton I already have) first. ;-)Thank you for your interest!!!! :-)

I really really like this dress. I love the simplicity of it, made even more appealing by the muted color. It looks very elegant considering it is made of Jersey. Its winter in england at the moment but I might hunt this pattern down and make it ready for our summer (might need a cardigan too as our summers arn’t like yours!) Well done.

Oooh, you are in England! Br-r-r-r. I am so glad you like the pattern. It means alot to me that you like it. Thank you. I spent hours looking through patterns to find just the right one – I tried to add a link to it above. If that doesn’t work just google the brand and pattern number and you will find it. Really cheap as a download, too… but remember, no seam allowances… Thanks again.

Simple yet effective. it must be nice to have practice dresses that you can actually wear. I really like it!

Hello redviv, and thank you! Yes, this will get some good wear this summer. I like how you describe your fabric collection as a “personal fabric mountain”. Funny lass.
