A friend asked me to sew a ring sling to carry her newborn, so I searched on internet to find out the size and materials I needed for this kind of sling: And here it is, fast and easy to sew and (I hope) useful for the new mum!
A ring sling requires a long fabric stripe about 70 cm height, so if you cut in half a common fabric that is 140 or 150 cm height you have material enough for two slings. So I realized one for my friend and another one with the “leftover” fabric for my sister!
After several attempts I decided that the most comfortable, in my opinion, was the one with pleats sewn near the point where the rings are inserted, because leaving the fabric free a part tended to slip down the shoulder limiting the movements.
In my blog you can find the link to the tutorial I followed for the pleats.

I like the pleat idea! That would keep the fabric gathered better. A sling like this one is the first thing I made when I got back into sewing. We got tons of use out of it with both our children and it’s still in good shape. Tell your friend she can use it well into the toddler years by sitting the kid on her hip in the sling with the top of their torso and arms out. I used to swing my son onto the back of my hip while I chopped vegetables to keep him out of trouble long enough to get it done.

I’m glad to hear that you used it a lot, I hope both mums will find it comfortable and useful as you did! :)
