Alison and her niece Louisa had a ball posing in their summer dresses— and we bet many mothers out there may agree that it’s pretty tough to capture a photograph of a 1 1/2 year-old who is constantly on the move! There was a lot of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” being sung to get Lulu to pause, but the dress fit like a dream (we used the smallest size) and works well with brightly colored bloomers.
The gorgeous printed cotton is Kaffe Fassett for Liberty Art Fabrics. We’re in love!
Women’s Dress: Cotton, 145 cm (57 in) wide: 1.20 m (1 3/8 yds) for all sizes. Lining fabric, 140 cm (55 in) wide: 0.50 m (5/8 yd). 1 invisible zip, 60 cm (24 ins) long.
Girl’s Dress: Cotton: 145 cm (57 in) wide 0.95 – 1.00 – 1.00 – 1.05 – 1.05 m (1 1/8 – 1 1/8 – 1 1/8 – 1 1/4 – 1 1/4 yds).

I’ve bought the pattern and have some perfect cotton fabric, but as the pattern says it is designed for a knit fabric, is there anything different about making it in woven fabric?

Hi there, It did not make a difference actually, but if you’re nervous about cutting into it, you could add some ease. Apologies for the untimely response!

Baby clothes really do take such a tiny bit of fabric. I want to make matching outfits for myself and my niece, but I don’t want my sister to think i’m crazy.

My sister was like “where’s my dress!” I like to pretend she’s mine. You should do it, even just for the photos!

Adorable! Both dresses are super-cute and the fabrics are wonderful. Nieces are a treat and I love how you found bluebells for the photoshoot!

When I was younger my first doll was named Bluebell, I wanted that to be my name too! My mom takes the credit for having planted those in her garden ;)
