My neighbor gave me this beautiful red wool last summer, and I immediately saw Christmas with the family, trudging through the snow to be greeted at home with a roaring fire and a nice hot cup of cocoa. I knew exactly what I would do with the fabric, and this is one of those rare occasions when my vision matched up almost exactly with the final product (in my original imaginings the skirt was just a bit fuller but I’m so pleased that it turned out to fit the way it does). I don’t think I’ve ever loved working with a fabric the way I loved working with this wool. It’s so pliable and soft, but never slipped out of place during stitching. The weight of it is just lovely, and the lining gives it a great swooshing sound when you walk.
The skirt is fully lined (so I can still wear it on the maybe four days a year when it’s cool enough for a wool skirt but not cold enough to need stockings) and has in-seam pockets and a 1.5 inch invisible hem, and it zips closed in the back.
wool, medium weight liner
