Description

I thought I would try a Lekala sewing patterns. They are an online made to your measurements sewing pattern company. Once ordered the pattern arrives as a PDF. This free men’s shirt pattern was great. I did take it in a little to give a more fitted look but overall great. With a more shaped waist, it would make a great relaxed fit ladies shirt, as shown on my tailors dummy.

I thought the original pattern was too big by about 2 cm around the chest. What they don’t tell you is what the pattern is designed to look like eg baggy, tight fitting and the level of ease. I chose the no seam allowances option, as I prefer to mark the seam line on the pattern. You could measure this compared to preferred clothing or identify the amount of ease.

I made the cuff slightly bigger, changed the cuff placket to a separate piece (there are plenty of free online patterns/instructions) and made the front button hole section back piece wider to help with sewing.

Material Notes

The fabric is super soft check from my MIL stash, thanks MIL.

Thanks Maria. I had made shirts before but this time I spent time finding some great instructions online e.g Male Devon Sewing’s step by step instructions. I hope you enjoy sewing a shirt.
