I’ve been obsessed lately with playing with texture and surface manipulation. Here’s the latest completed project of my efforts. This little guy’s made with cream leather. I hand pinched all those petals. It was tedious, but very relaxing work! I think these would make great bridesmaid bags.
I’m having a giveaway over at my blog if anyone’s interested in entering for a chance to win it: http://automaticsweetheart.blogspot.com
Thanks for taking a look!

The leather is not recycled (edit: goodness, my mistake! i made a black one that is recycled leather and had just written a description for it, so my brain got lazy when I was writing this description. i’m glad i caught that!) , but the petals are made with every left over scrap I can find! I dream of a day when cream leather jackets are plentiful at the goodwill!
I’ll try to get a tutorial up within the next month or so, but they’re really easy to make. You can see the process a little better here: http://automaticsweetheart.blogspot.com/2010/02/manipulator.html
I take the semi circles of leather and pinch the two corners of the flat side together.
Hope that helps!

It’s lovely, and it looks well made. The shapes look like tortellini, to me. Yum! ;)

I think they look like tortellini too! I secretly call this technique the tortellini treatment. Ha!

I started with buying leather garments from a thrift store…it’s so much cheaper than buying a new hide so if you make mistakes it’s not as traumatic;)
I made this wristlet on a home sewing machine. The things I have found necessary to minimize frustration are 1. rubber cement to hold the seams together before you sew, 2. leather needles OR a super new denim needle 3., a teflon foot, 4. long stitches (I set my machine to stitch length 4.5 or 5).
Hope that helps!

I take the semi circles of leather and pinch the two corners of the flat side together to get the shape.
I’ll let you know when the tutorial is up!
