An inspiration for this dress came from Laundry by Shelli Segal Pleat Dress.
This was my knockoff attempt. I liked the pleats sewn outwards instead of inwards, so I changed my original idea. Also, I didn’t pleat the back of the dress, since I didn’t want to accentuate my big bottom more than it is already exposed:).
The dress is not so close fitted due to lack of vertical darts.
This kind of pattern requires fabric that has some thickness, but drapes really well. I used georgette viscose.
This dress was featured in the Feb/Mar 2011 issue of the Sew News magazine, available in the USA. The last image is scanned from the magazine itself. To read more about how to draft a leaf pleated dress, take a look here

Your big bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People would die for a bottom like yours, and if your bottom is big I might as well go crawl into a cave! You look so cute in this dress. I love those pleats. I don’t know how you managed to do the pleating without making the clean lines of the shift dress all muddled. How in the world do you do it! So skillful.

Hahaha, thanks for the compliments, once again!
I might make a tutorial on altering the basic pattern to get these pleats – it’s not that difficult at all! All you need is a dress pattern and some imagination.
JJ’s bodice sloper pattern would work for it as well.

You have a gift for sewing! Not just this dress, which is amazing, but all your other creations as well. I tend to gravitate to your sense of style and then I see that it was you that did them. Really cute and sensible. Practical too.
