This year I’ve set myself a ‘Haute Couture at Home’ challenge – it’s not all really high class HC, but the aim of my dress making this year is for quality over quantity, and trying out new techniques.
This dress was inspired by the rising 1950s revival movement, the lovely Betty Draper and what not.
I was also keen to try out a technique from the Pattern Magic books – the curving seamline. Here, those two things meet into one dress for me.

This is great…but I think it’s a tad short for a 1950s dress, a quibble I have with a lot of RTW full skirted dresses I see these days. Dresses this full didn’t end above the knees! Besides, these skirts were meant to be worn with slips or petticoats to really make them full and flowy. Just my three cents.

So pretty! The colours are so mature and feminine. The skirt flows beautifully. Really nice.

Thanks Ruffles!
The technique is from the first Pattern Magic book (around pg 73) – can’t tell you the name of the technique – I’ve got the Japanese version! :-)
