Lavender Floret skirt/top
Added Aug 10, 2010
DescriptionI made this skirt as a toile mock up for a dress. I drafted an A-line from a how-to in “Sew What! Skirts: 16 Simple Styles You Can Make with Fabulous Fabrics” and an article in a sewing magazine from “Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified”. I added a side zipper and some pink lace to peek out the top. It’s high waisted. I thought with the left overs I would try my hand at a bra-esque kind of top. I took an old bra and and cut off the pieces that I needed. Used light purple seam binding around the top. I hand made polka dot bias tape straps. I couldn’t find a bra hook for this so I used snaps instead. The inside has elastic and a little bit of pink lace peeks out the bottom to match the skirt. I used the http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/contour-bust-dress-and-tute editorial for the top and shortened it a bit. I really like it for spring/summer. I think I might make that cute floppy hat to go with it..who knows! I really helped me with my dress I’m working on. Can’t wait to finish it!!!
Floral remenant cotton, repurposed elastic, circles, sliders (not sure what they are called) from a previous bra, cotton polka dot bias tape (homemade), purple seam binding, snaps, pink lace seam binding, thread, hook & eye closure, and a pink invisible zipper.
