Description
James Dean, the Fonz, Joan Jett…The classic motorcycle jacket just oozes ‘cool’. Here, we created a pattern for the ideal motorcycle jacket with all the essential details: asymmetrical center front with convertible lapel, zippered pockets, shoulder vents, tabs at the back waist, wrist zips…But then, instead of going down the tried-and-true road with black leather, we decided to give a twist to this classic with a luscious mustard wool. We can’t wait to see your interpretation!
Material Notes
Leather and faux leather can be tricky to sew, so perhaps try doing this jacket in wool, like we did. Silk lining, metal zippers, snaps, interfacing.

The 1st comment I have is that not only is this well made but you pressed it nicely so it has the professionally made look. A lot of times I see garments on this site that look well made but are pressed badly which makes them look homemade. Pressing can fix so much!
As for the comments on the price of the pattern, I am a tailor that works in NYC and when a company asks me to create a pattern for them I charge several hundreds of dollars to do it. Burda probably has people on staff so it is less but still, these are highly trained pattern makers who probably also put in the time to test the pattern.
The person who asked about plus sizes, there are pretty simple ways to enlarge patterns if you look for a class or online instruction. The gist of it is using your measurements (at bust, hip, bicept, etc) and spreading the additional amount at the grainline. Once you learn it, you will find it very easy. Good luck! Nothing makes a plus size woman look sharper then a well tailored outfit!

A lovely jackets. I’ve always loved the style of a biker jacket but I’m not a fan of leather so love the fact that this is made of wool.

Love this its so classic. And finished projects by other people sho its versatile enough to make out of almost any coat fabric. Am trying to find the courage to start such difficult looking project before I buy the pattern though!

Thank you for the pattern, thank you for sharing. I’m sorry for enter in the discussion about the price, but I really want to say something… All we should think more and try to be more respectful. Lose time to write something stupid and gross is not nice. Each of us have different opinions, we must argue but think more before or we will never be heard or respected. I like to read the comments to learn something extra or get new ideas, today I felt deeply sad about how some people can be so gross. Unfortunately, most people don’t have 5U$ to spent. In my opinion we should all share everything but is not that easy for some people who work with it. I admit that I will give an idea now that maybe is impossible, stupid or naive, but I though that the person who did a pattern should put a price on it for his/her work. After some people who can afford pay it, maybe the pattern can be put free or lower price. To say the truth I don’t know exactly how the burdastyle works, I’m sorry for that. I’m sorry too for my english, I’m learning recent. Good vibes from the southern atlantic sea for you all!

I am sick of reading all the comments complaining about spending $5 on this pattern. Here in Australia, you have to spend at least $10 for a pattern of a simple top or dress. If I went to the store to buy this pattern it would be at least $25, which is now something like $26USD. $5 is like walking into Bargain-Ville. This pattern would have taken quite some time to create, especially the additional sizes, you all have no right to complain. I don’t know what $5 buys in America, but here it’s a chicken burger from McDonalds. Now, unless you have 9 hungry children to feed, you can almost definitely afford this. /rage

There are so many patterns with that preppy blazer look (I hate it) or ugly small collars, now finally I found the pattern of my dreams !
And folks, 5$ for a multisize pattern like this can’t be beaten !The variations are endless: Made one with black faux leather, studs, conchos and tassles (for that Glam Rock style ;) ) Planning one made of genuine lamb nappa but $$$$$, you know ;)
And I made a few with a hood, a “motorcycle hoodie”, using sweater knit (just make a hood instead of the upper collar, messure the length of the hood for the fit)

I would really love to have the Larissa motorcycle jacket made in a plus size, especially because I cannot find another motorcycle jacket pattern anywhere that looks like this one and the ones I do find are few and far between. I am also still new to adjusting patterns to fit and don’t know how to adjust the pattern to make a larger size.
I was wondering if anyone else felt like me and either found a similar pattern elsewhere or somehow made the one on this site bigger. If not, I thought I might be able sto start a mini-petition here to encorage Burdastyle to develop a larger pattern. On the Nadine Plus site it says "We like our Nadine jacket so much, we wanted to make sure everyone could make it! " and I wish they would do the same for the Larissa since I love that jacket but cannot seem to find a pattern like it at all anywhere else.

I love this pattern, but I"m waffling between it and Simplicity 2504 (view A). I like the details on this one, like the zippered pockets, the epaulets, the snaps at the bottom, but the Simplicity pattern has a different collar that I like and princess seams – so maybe it would have a nicer shape. Also, it looks longer. Any opinions?

I actually had this exact jacket I bought, and it was made out of a beautiful black cotton. I lost the jacket and have been depressed ever since. This will be the best money I’ve ever spent. Yay.

hahaha I agree, $5 for a pattern is on the cheap side. and when you think about what it equates to…. 1 trashy magazine or a coffee, versus the pattern for a jacket you can make over and over in different colours? I really wanted one just like this that was $70, and I have some fabric I can make it from. so if I get a jacket for $5 I’ll be thrilled.
