Thousands of tiny pieces of scrap material and non scrap, old shirts… sewn together, edged straight, re-edged as first edging was squint…. wadding and larger squares sewn together for back. Quilt is about 2 meters long by 1 and a half meters wide. Not bad for a first attempt at an adult sized quilt!
The idea of my quilt is it a gift for my husband- he loves the sea so much that every time we take a trip I promise to sew the name of the place we have visited with an image on the larger squares on the back. I will start with ‘Faroe Islands’ and a map of the islands.
Pretty much everything I could lay my hands on.

Oh my goodness, this is so beautiful! I LOVE the idea of recycling scraps and unwanted pieces in this way, and with such a stunning outcome.

It is not actually that hard.. I think maybe I should have kept the colours a bit more minimal- I just get so excited with all the scraps I want everything in!

this is so gorgeous!!!! i don’t typically like quilts, but as sunnilj9 stated, the varied straight lines of patchwork give it a very modern aesthetic. i love the idea of adding to it as you and your husband travel. you two will cherish this quilt forever!!!

Thanks- it really sweet of you! I wanted to make it more modern and have some design over the front- I ran out of time and I came up with the travel idea for the back so maybe it was not such a bad thing!

It is amazing how much you can cut out of a mans shirt. No- my husband hasn’t lost any!! I got the shirts from another quilters stash- what a dream. They were really soft and worn. I just worry it rips but I can mend it and it will add character!
